This individual will have responsibility for performing audits of corporate and property functions, including Sarbanes-Oxley 404 testing, external audit support and a variety of corporate audit projects. Additionally, assist the Head of the department with providing advice and guidance to the management team on process matters that impact the business.
Plan, schedule and perform audits of properties, corporate and operational areas.
Perform Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) planning and testing.
Develop risk-based audit plans.
Prepare internal audit reports for management, make recommendations for internal control and process enhancements and obtain management's feedback to be included in the final audit reports.
Communicate with corporate and operational personnel to develop appropriate recommendations for internal control and process enhancements.
Assist the Head of Internal Audit with the risk assessment and annual internal audit plan.
Perform audit support work for Essex’ external auditors.
Perform other duties as requested by the Audit Committee or Sr. Management.
Assist in special investigations and other projects as assigned.
Ability to remain current with industry trends and maintain all professional certifications.
Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting or Finance preferred.
2+ years SOX experience required.
3+ years experience in audit required.
Knowledge of real estate preferred.
Strong analytical, written/verbal communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills.
Ability to work independently, adapt to change quickly, multi-task and be part of a team.
Flexible and willing to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities.
